We have
worked with have worked with Penybont and Llandegley communities to install a
defibrillator for our villages.
The
defibrillator is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The
defibrillator is kept in a locked cabinet and can be accessed by entering a
code. The code is supplied by the Ambulance Service upon dialling 999.
The pads
on the defibrillator are dual functioning and can be used on adults and
children.
The
defibrillator is situated:
Outside
the Penybont Community Hall, next to the Severn Arms Hotel, on the A44: Click here for directions.
Outside
the St.Tecia Church, Llandegley, in a red BT telephone box. Off the A44: Click here for directions.
A
Defibrillator is an easy-to-use device that delivers an electric shock to the
heart of a patient when they have had a cardiac arrest.
A cardiac
arrest is when the heart stops pumping blood around the body, which is often
caused by an electrical problem with the heart. A defibrillator can shock the
heart back into a normal rhythm.
We hope
that this will be of comfort to our residents, knowing that this vital piece of
life saving equipment will be available at any time of day or night. Every
second counts when someone is having a cardiac arrest. Survival rates are
extremely poor at only 3% but when a defibrillator is used, rates can increase to
up to 50% so timely intervention is essential.
